Nekhebu created an amazing tool that is located at https://codeaid.github.io/woth-toolbox. It is a great tool that even the devs called out in a dev update post for the amazing work. The animal and firearm pages help with clearing up understanding matching calibers to species since it is bullet energy not tier. The maps show all the need zones and allows notes, tracking animal growth, and notes for herd management. With all the variances for a herd, multiple zones, how wide the zones are and random timing intervals, it’s really up to you whether it is too much of a spoiler, but a peak does at least give a better idea how many there are and how much they vary. The map functions and looks like the one in game but also has many tools to customize it for yourself to assist in keeping track of animals of interest to you. The tutorial for the map pages is very good at displaying all that you can do with it.
